Victoria Mboko continued to demonstrate why she is one of the most exciting prospects on Tour with victory over Mirra Andreeva on Monday.
The pair, who appear to be developing into the next great WTA rivalry, contested another three-set marathon – following on from their clash at the Qatar Open.
Mboko emerged victorious once again, running away with the match in the final set.
Who has impressed you the most?
The Canadian’s 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 victory has cemented her status as a key contender for the Miami Open title; and who would bet against the 19-year-old lifting the trophy on Sunday?
Mboko also achieved greatness in another respect, placing her name alongside tennis legend Serena Williams.
Victoria Mboko joins Serena Williams in the history books
As per OptaAce, Victoria Mboko has become the first player to claim a deciding set with a 6-0 scoreline at the Miami Open against a top 10 player since the 2013 women’s singles final.

That year, Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova 4–6, 6–3, 6–0 to claim her sixth Miami Open title.
Serena would go on to win two more Miami titles, in 2014 and 2015.
As for Mboko, an opportunity has presented itself to the Canadian at this year’s Miami event.
With second seed Iga Swiatek being knocked out in the second round, the highest seed left in her half of the draw is Coco Gauff – who has demonstrated mixed form to start the 2026 season.
The Canadian will play Karolina Muchova in the Miami Open quarter-finals. Muchova, the 13th seed, demolished Alexandra Eala 6-0, 6-2 in her fourth-round match.
If Mboko were to defeat Muchova, she would play Coco Gauff or Belinda Bencic in the semi-finals.

Victoria Mboko’s Miami Open debut
Victoria Mboko made her Miami Open debut at the 2025 event.
The Canadian, who was a wildcard entry, defeated Colombian player Camila Osorio 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 in her first Miami Open match.
Mboko then lost a close second-round match to Spanish 10th seed Paula Badosa, 5-7, 6-1, 6-7.
Stephen Boughton, host of the Slice Tennis podcast, revealed what Badosa had said to her about Mboko following their Miami Open contest.

Boughton said: “In Miami I ran into Paula Badosa in the elevator right after she’d played Victoria Mboko and I asked her about her.
“I said ‘what do you think about Vicky?’
“And she’s like ‘oh she’s incredible, she’s incredible, she’s going to be at the top very soon.'”
