Venus Williams’ ATX Open campaign has come to an end following her loss in the doubles event on Thursday.
Venus received a wildcard for the event and played with compatriot Peyton Stearns as they were defeated 2-6, 6-7 by top seeds Taylor Townsend and Storm Hunter.
Venus, who has expressed her thoughts on playing doubles with Coco Gauff again, also lost in the first round of the singles event to Alja Tomljanovic.

Although it was a disappointing end to her ATX Open campaign, Venus can take great pride in her performances and can look forward to Indian Wells.
Venus Williams is set to become the sixth-highest appearance maker at WTA 1000 events
After receiving a wildcard, Venus Williams is set to take part in Indian Wells.
As per OptaAce, Venus Williams will become the player with the sixth-most main draw appearances in Tier I / WTA-1000 main draws since the format’s introduction in 1990, equalling 2010 French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.
Venus has moved past Petra Kvitova, who made 109 appearances at WTA 1000 events before her retirement last year.
The American is also ahead of Ai Sugiyama, who has made 107 appearances.
Venus also ranks fourth on the number of match wins at WTA 1000 events. The American has won 214 matches, the same as Svetlana Kuznetsova and 15 ahead of Agnieszka Radwańska.
Venus trails Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova, who have won 263, 231 and 220 matches respectively.
Venus will find out her draw for the upcoming Indian Wells event on Monday. The 45-year-old is in the singles competition and will play alongside Leila Fernandez in doubles.

The last time Venus Williams played Indian Wells
Venus last played in Indian Wells in 2024, where she lost in the first round to Nao Hibino, 6-2, 3-6, 0-6.
After winning the contest, Hibino said: “I was so nervous. As you can see, she has been the best in our sport since I was kid, so I was so grateful for having a chance to play her today.”
In her press conference, the Japanese player added: “I heard some Japanese voices in the crowd which gave me some energy, and the wind picked up and Venus made a couple double faults for a chance to break and that was it.
“I was just trying to get as many balls back as possible and I started to do a better job of that. There was still some pressure … but not the bad kind.”
Venus has never won Indian Wells. Her best performance has been the semi-final stage, which she reached in 1998, 2001 and 2018.
