Venus Williams picked up her first victory of the season in the Madrid Open doubles, alongside Katie Boulter.
The pair were making their doubles debut and they defeated the Chinese duo of Jiang Xinyu and Xu Yifan in three sets.
Williams was incredibly complimentary of Boulter after the match and the pair will play Sofia Kenin and Hsieh Su-wei in the next round.
After her first win since the 2025 US Open, Williams is now just one match away from a major ranking milestone.

Venus Williams close to WTA Tour ranking milestone
Williams has played plenty of doubles already in 2026 and she has amassed an impressive amount of ranking points, despite her inability to pick up a victory.
Will Venus Williams ever win another singles match?
That's 10 defeats in a row…
The American’s victory alongside Boulter has seen her reach world number 115 in the WTA Tour doubles rankings.
If Boulter and Williams are able to win their next match in Madrid, the latter will re-join the top 100 of the doubles rankings.
The Madrid Open is the fifth doubles draw Williams has entered in 2026, following appearances at the ASB Classic, the Australian Open, the ATX Open, and the Miami Open.
Williams has played doubles with a different partner at each tournament before picking up a victory with Boulter.
The American has already been paired with Ekaterina Alexandrova, Elina Svitolina, Peyton Stearns, and Leylah Fernandez so far this year.
Venus Williams and Katie Boulter’s partnership should continue after Madrid
Williams and Boulter performed well in their first round match and it is clear which tournament they should bring their partnership to next.

The pair would be perfect for a doubles stint at this year’s Wimbledon for Williams’ first appearance at the UK Grand Slam since 2023.
Williams should not earn a singles wild card as those should be saved for up-and-coming British female stars.
However, a doubles stint with Boulter would be hard to turn down and it would be the perfect return for the star who has won 11 Wimbledon titles across singles and doubles.
