Valentin Vacherot’s dream campaign at the Shanghai Masters has sent him to the final, but it’s forced him out of another competition.

Vacherot has upset several top stars in Shanghai, but none were bigger than his incredible victory against Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.

The qualifier will play the winner of Daniil Medvedev and Arthur Rinderknech in the final as he looks to win his first-ever ATP 1000 event.

Vacherot’s unexpected run to the Shanghai Masters final has meant he’s had to pull out of another tournament.

Valentin Vacherot has pulled out of Suzhou Challenger event

Vacherot has been a mainstay on the Challenger Tour throughout 2025, but his run at the Shanghai Masters has thrust him into the top 100.

The Monégasque has pulled out of the China International Suzhou, which was set to begin on October 20.

It is currently unclear whether this means Vacherot will skip the Challenger Tour now he’s surged the ATP Tour rankings.

Vacherot has climbed all the way up to World No. 58 in the ATP Tour live rankings, which is by far his highest career ranking to date.

The star’s previous career-high was World No. 110, which he earned in June 2024 after his performances at the Open Aix Provence and Roland Garros.

Valentin Vacherot reacts to his Shanghai Masters final

Vacherot was just as stunned as fans to defeat 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in the Shanghai semi-final.

“This is just crazy. I mean crazy is a good way to say it,” said Vacherot after beating Djokovic in the semi-final.

“But first of all, to just be on the other side of the court was already an unbelievable experience. I think I’ve got so much to learn from this match, from him.”

And even for myself, I’ve got a lot to keep. I don’t know how long it went, like an hour 40? It was an hour 40 of pure joy, even though not many people wanted me to keep going (smiles).

“He is really, really appreciated here. He has won four times, I think. I got a bit lost in all his titles when they were announcing him (laughs) but it was an unreal experience. I mean, now I’m probably just going to enjoy the win tonight, think about the final tomorrow.”

Vacherot will play either his cousin Rinderknech or Medvedev in the final of the Shanghai Masters on October 12.
