US Open: Defending Champions Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka named top seeds

Defending champions and current World number ones, Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka, have been named as top seeds for this year’s US Open.

In the men’s tournament, Djokovic will be chasing a 17th Grand Slam singles title, with Rafael Nadal seeded second and Roger Federer third.

Serbian Djokovic has had a successful season so far taking both the Australian Open title and Wimbledon crown in an epic five set final against Federer.

In the women’s tournament, Naomi Osaka is followed by French Open Champion Ashleigh Barty as second seed and Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic behind them.

Japanese star Osaka was the surprise winner of last years US Open beating Serena Williams for her first Grand Slam title in a controversial final in which Serena Williams, who is seeded eighth, lost her composure.

The draw for the men’s and women’s singles takes place on Thursday night
