Tracy Austin states what she’s found ‘crazy’ about what Jannik Sinner’s been doing over the last three months

Whatever Jannik Sinner touches at the moment seems to turn to gold. He is simply unstoppable.

The Italian Open marked a sixth consecutive title at the Masters 1000 level, having won all five of these events in 2026 alone. There is a genuine belief that he might win all nine this campaign, which would be truly unprecedented.

However, almost everything that the Italian is doing at the moment is unprecedented.

Jannik Sinner breaks new records with each passing match and will head to Roland Garros bidding to complete his career Grand Slam with seemingly no competition.

And yet, despite the relative weakness of the ATP Tour aiding his conquest for greatness, both Jim Courier and Tracy Austin could not have been more complimentary when reviewing his performances in Rome.

Tracy Austin and Jim Courier react to Jannik Sinner’s Italian Open title

Speaking on Tennis Channel, Courier began by explaining how Sinner’s ability to already surpass Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer at Masters 1000 events effectively already makes him an all-time great.

He stated: “You’ve got to remember, the one thing that Nadal wasn’t able to do at the Masters 1000 level was win in Miami, right?

“So he never had the run in succession that we’re seeing from Jannik Sinner since March, unbeatable.

“And no one’s really had him in a position where he was in a losing position, right? I don’t think he’s been down a break in a final set.

“Medvedev had him in two sets, six and six in Indian Wells on a really hot day. I thought that could have gone the other way. It didn’t.

“Fonseca played him. Six and six as well in Indian Wells, but rarely has he been tested.”

Austin then chimed in, noting: “Three sets overall [that he’s lost]. That’s crazy numbers.”

She then offered up her own glowing testimony for Sinner, adding: “Well, I think you put it well. I mean, I think just to break it down a little slower is that he’s won indoors in Paris last year, and then he goes to Indian Wells, as Jannik said yesterday in his press, it’s bouncy. And then he said, it’s flat in Miami, and then it’s slower in Monte Carlo, and then there’s altitude in Madrid, and all these different conditions, it’s incredible.

“He adjusts his game, adjusts himself mentally. These are really taxing moments normally, on the nervous system, you just get fatigued, and he just keeps getting up. I love the way that he thanked his team. He really, really seems to be in such a comfortable place.”

Sinner actually broke a Novak Djokovic record by winning the Italian Open, proving how intertwined with the Big Three he already is, even at just 24 years old.

Jannik Sinner discusses his preparation for Roland Garros

Sinner has played so much tennis over the last few months, albeit with good reason.

After all, when he just keeps winning, there’s no reason to stop.

However, it will be interesting to see if there is any kind of physical hang-up ahead of Roland Garros, where the intensity ramps up dramatically with the change from best of three to best of five sets.

Can anyone now stop Jannik Sinner from winning Roland Garros after Carlos Alcaraz’s withdrawal?

If yes, who?

The four-time Grand Slam champion will head to Paris as the overwhelming favourite, but when asked about the event, Sinner was quick to dismiss any speculation.

He revealed: “The main priority is to recover as much as I can in the next two, three days. There is not going to be a lot of training, for sure. Tennis, zero.

“Physical, we need to see. I want to be a little bit with my family, as well, in this moment. Switching off on tennis, then from Thursday on I think I will be there in Paris. Prepare and we see how it goes. Yeah, look, now it’s important to rest.”
