A top 30 player continued his disappointing record in opening tournament matches after crashing out of the Paris Masters.

The Paris Masters is officially underway as the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner look to win the last 1000 tournament 2025.

Several players are looking to stake a claim for the ATP Finals, while others are trying desperately to end their season on a high.

One top 30 player has continued their strange record of poor defeats in opening tournament matches with a straight sets loss.

Top 30 player crashes out of the Paris Masters

Tomas Machac’s form has been in free-fall since his run to the US Open round of 16, with the Czech star winning just one match since the Flushing Meadows tournament.

The Czech star’s fortunes were not changed at the Paris Masters, where he lost in straight sets to Flavio Cobolli.

Cobolii, who also knocked Machac out of the Vienna Open, won just five games against his Italian counterpart as he crashed out of the opening round of a tournament for the eighth time in 2025.

Machac has lost in the opening round of Indian Wells, the Madrid Open, Geneva, Roland Garros, the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Open, the Japan Open, and the Vienna Open.

The Czech star is currently still ranked at World No. 30, but he will very likely drop following the events of the Paris Masters.

Machac will desperately need to address his form in opening round matches if he wants to climb back up the ATP Tour rankings.

Tomas Machac has another problem in 2025

Machac poor form at the start of tournaments is not the only problem the Czech star has to address at the end of the season.

The star has worryingly retired from eight matches in 2025, including against Valentin Vacherot at the Shanghai Masters and Jakub Mensik at the Miami Open.

Retirements and withdrawals have become a running trend of the ATP Tour, but no player has opted out of games more than Machac.

Machac and his team have plenty to work on following the end of the 2025 season and the beginning of another hectic calendar.
