Alexandra Eala has emerged as a young superstar on the WTA Tour, following a breakout 2025 season on the WTA Tour.
The 20-year-old sent shockwaves through the tennis landscape in March, beating three Grand Slam champions to reach the Miami Open semi-finals.
However, the young star has been handed a nightmare opening draw at Wimbledon. She faces last year’s champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Despite the mountainous challenge that awaits the Filipina athlete, Eala is more than capable of shocking Krejcikova and making a statement run at this year’s championships.

Alexandra Eala has demonstrated excellent ability on grass courts
Despite her young age, Eala has shown a capability to perform well on all surfaces, including grass.
The 20-year-old was fearless at the Eastbourne Open, taking down much more experienced opponents to reach the final.
After winning a round of qualifying, the world number 56 demolished Lucia Bronzetti 6-0 6-1, before beating Jelena Ostapenko for the second time in 2025.
Eala continued her magnificent form to beat Dayana Yastremska 6-1 6-2 before dispatching Varvara Gracheva in the semi-final.
Eala fought valiantly in the final against Australian May Joint and had four match points for the title. However, Joint saved all four of these points and converted her first match point to win 6-4 1-6 7-6.
The 20-year-old was heartbroken after the final. Eala posted a message on Instagram, saying: “A WTA trophy!
“Thank you everyone for the love.
“This has to be one of the toughest losses of my early career, but I firmly believe that it’s these moments that make you stronger and shape your character. Though I’m so happy with the positive week, it’s full speed ahead to Wimbledon.
“I have a date with center court.”
Alexandra Eala has proven she can mix it with the best
Eala’s skyrocketed to prominence on the WTA Tour after a stellar outing at the Miami Open. The 20-year-old was relatively unknown amongst the WTA’s upper echelons, with the likes of Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula competing in Miami.
However, Eala caused shock after shock, dispatching with one Grand Slam champion after another to reach the semi-final stage.
Eala beat Ostapenko 7-6 7-5, before dismissing Australian Open champion Madison Keys, winning 6-4 6-2.
These results were followed up by a momentous victory over five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek. The Filipina player won 6-2 7-5 against the Pole.
Despite Eala’s semi-final loss to Jessica Pegula, she proved her worth amongst the elite, and will use her valuable Miami Open experience when taking on Krejcikova at Wimbledon.
Barbora Krejcikova’s injury concerns ahead of Wimbledon
Since winning her maiden Wimbledon title in 2024, Krejcikova has had dire luck with injuries.
The Czech player was forced to exit June’s Eastbourne Open due to a thigh injury and missed November 2024 to May 2025 with a back injury.
Krejcikova’s unfortunate circumstances could give Eala the perfect chance to cause an upset at Wimbledon.

Speaking at her pre-Wimbledon press conference, Krejcikova said: “I had to have a couple of days off where I didn’t play any tennis but I did some off-court stuff and I’ve been feeling everyday a little bit better.
“So, I’m really happy with that and I hope by Tuesday everything is going to be fine and yeah I hope I’m going to have a nice match and a great tournament.”
