American men’s tennis continues its hunt for a long-awaited Grand Slam, but there are still several stars impressing on the ATP Tour.
An American man has not won a Grand Slam since Andy Roddick was crowned the US Open champion in 2003.
Taylor Fritz became the first Grand Slam finalist since Roddick in 2009 when he reached the US Open final in 2024, but he was unable to defeat Jannik Sinner.
Despite their inability to win a major, a number of American players have reached ranking highs across 2025.

Ben Shelton leads American tennis with three new ranking highs
Ben Shelton has reached the top five of the rankings for the first time in his career during his maiden ATP Finals appearance.
The 23-year-old might have lost to Alexander Zverev in his opening round match in Turin, but he does have something to celebrate.
Fritz has lost his ATP Finals 2024 points ahead of the 2025 event, after reaching the final of the tournament last year.
That’s allowed Shelton to climb the rankings, and he’s not the only American player to reach new ground on the ATP Tour.
Learner Tien, fresh from his Metz Open win over Cameron Norrie, has reached World No. 28 in the rankings.
The teenager has all but confirmed his seeded entry into the Australian Open and he’s also guaranteed entry into every ATP 500 tournament in 2026.
Ethan Quinn has also managed to reach World No. 64 in the rankings, following a year which has seen the 21-year-old win 12 times this season.
Ben Shelton joins Rafael Nadal and Jack Draper on elite list
Shelton’s top five debut has earned him an accolade only earned previously by Rafael Nadal and Jack Draper on the ATP Tour.
In a staggering statistic, the star is just the third left-handed player to reach the top five of the rankings in the history of the sport.
Nadal the trailblazer for left-handers in the sport, and other players are finally following suit on the ATP Tour.
Draper managed the feat earlier this year due to his sparkling season in the first half of the season, which saw him win Indian Wells.
