The statistic which proves Alex Eala should be confident of beating Karolina Muchova in Miami

Alex Eala comfortably defeated Magda Linette on Saturday, setting up a Miami Open fourth round clash against Karolina Muchova.

After stunning Iga Swiatek in the second round, Linette looked set to cause Eala some problems on the court.

However, the young Filipina maintained her composure despite a spirited second-set effort from Linette, securing a 6-3, 7-6 victory.

As mentioned already, Eala will play Karolina Muchova next. The 20-year-old Filipina has never played Muchova on the WTA Tour.

Eala should feel confident heading into the match, after previously recording strong performances against top 15 players.

Considering Eala is yet to break into the WTA top-20, she has a very positive record against top 15 players on the Tour.

The youngster has won five of her 10 matches against top 15 players, beating Iga Swiatek, Madison Keys, Clara Tauson, Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff.

Her losses have come against Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Linda Noskova.

Eala recorded her first victory against a top 15 opponent when she played Keys at the 2025 Miami Open, stunning the Australian Open champion 6-4, 6-2.

Victory against Iga Swiatek followed before the Filipina was knocked out in the semi-finals by Jessica Pegula.

Later that year, Eala recorded her first Grand Slam main-draw victory, beating world number 14 Clara Tauson in a nail-biting three-set contest.

Eala has continued to stun the big names in 2026, beating Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff.

While Eala has faced higher-ranked players, Karolina Muchova has been one of the most impressive players on the Tour this year.

The Czech star, a former Australian Open semi-finalist, won her first WTA 1000 title in February, beating Canadian youngster Victoria Mboko in the final.

Muchova has defeated Camila Osorio and Katie Boulter in Miami, and she will be hopeful of her chances against Eala on Monday.

Eala will need to serve well against Muchova – otherwise the Czech star could quickly take control of the match using her excellent all-around game.
