The South American former junior world number one who has just won his second Challenger title of 2025

Brazilian star Joao Fonseca is undoubtedly one of the most promising South American prospects on the ATP Tour.

However, he is not the only South American making headlines – Adolfo Daniel Vallejo, 22, could be set to join the ATP’s elite very soon.

Vallejo, of Paraguay, is a former ITF junior world number one and a winner of the prestigious Orange Bowl; he became the first Paraguayan in history to win the event.

Vallejo, who is also a junior Grand Slam finalist in doubles, has just won his second title of 2025.

Adolfo Daniel Vallejo wins the Guayaquil Challenger

On Sunday, Vallejo won his second Challenger title of 2025: the third of his career so far.

Seeded second at the Ecuadorian event, Vallejo began the week by defeating Lucio Ratti 6-2, 6-1.

He then defeated Luis David Martinez and Luciano Emanuel Ambrogi, before knocking out Alvaro Guillen Mela in the semi-finals.

As posted on the ATP Challenger Tour’s X page, Vallejo secured the title with a 7-5, 6-7, 6-3 victory over Juan Pablo Varillas.

Vallejo could be one to watch for 2026. After all, he reached the pinnacle of the ITF’s junior rankings in 2022 and made the 2022 Australian Open Boys Doubles final while playing alongside American star Alex Michelsen.

Vallejo won his first Challenger singles title in 2024 at the Sao Leo Open in Brazil. He won his second 19 months later at the Copa Internacional de Tênis, Brazil.

Vallejo has also won one Challenger doubles title, at the 2023 Lima Challenger in Peru.

Vallejo has won four tournaments in three months

The Paraguayan, whose 2025 Challenger titles were won in October and November, also won events at a lower level during September.

The 21-year-old, who has a 5-3 record for Paraguay at the Davis Cup, won the M25 Mar del Plata in Argentina and the M25 Londrina, Brazil.

Following this period of success, Vallejo has risen to a career-high ranking of world number 143.

Vallejo, the youngest Paraguayan to win a Challenger title, will hope to continue his ascension in 2026.

Vallejo, who formerly trained at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca, had the opportunity to train with some ATP stars at the 2022 ATP Finals.

Then 18, Vallejo commented on his experience while speaking to the ATP Tour in 2023.

He said: “They are very consistent and aggressive with their games. They have big serves. They have a lot of things you can take away and try and practise.

“I was warming up Daniil Medvedev for his match against [Stefanos] Tsitsipas. It was a fun experience.

“Daniil has a completely different game style. He is a very chilled guy. It is very fun to be with him and play with him. You get used to his ball and it is very fun.”
