A total of seven ATP players have completed the Sunshine Double, winning Indian Wells and the Miami Open in the same season.

Indian Wells has now arrived, where Jack Draper is looking to defend his title, and Novak Djokovic is seeking a record sixth success.

World number one Carlos Alcaraz and his main rival Jannik Sinner are also in the field for Indian Wells, the first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the season.

It is immediately followed in the schedule by the Miami Open, with only a handful of players having been able to win both back-to-back.

Who finishes their career with more Grand Slam titles? 🏆

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic among Sunshine Double winners

Jim Courier was the first man to complete the Sunshine Double, doing so as a 20-year-old back in 1991.

Fellow Americans Michael Chang and Pete Sampras followed suit, before Chilean Marcelo Rios achieved the feat.

After that, Andre Agassi won the Sunshine Double, with fellow legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic then following in his footsteps.

As they very often did, Federer and Djokovic took matters further, each completing the Sunshine Double on multiple occasions.

The fantastic achievement has been possible since 1985, when Miami was added to the calendar alongside Indian Wells.

Novak Djokovic can make Indian Wells history

Sunshine Doubles winner Djokovic has a very tricky Indian Wells draw, but he simply cannot be ruled out of clinching the title once more.

It has been a very long time since his last success in California, with the Serbian last lifting the trophy in 2016.

But he was the dominant force at the tournament around that time, winning the competition three years in a row.

Along with that longer-term past, he also has recent history on his side thanks to his superb run at the Australian Open, where he lost in the final.

Moreover, Djokovic has huge motivation to clinch another Indian Wells title given that he would move ahead of his old rival Federer at the very top of the all-time list.

Novak Djokovic’s Indian Wells titles

It certainly won’t be easy, particularly with the form of two-time champion Alcaraz, but a well-rested Djokovic is very likely to throw everything he has at claiming the title.

With only one tournament played all season, the 38-year-old is clearly keen on managing his schedule, only taking on events he thinks he can win or perhaps holds a close connection with.
