Jannik Sinner has an incredibly impressive record at his three ATP Finals appearances, with 10 victories at the year-end event.

Sinner is looking to defend his 2024 ATP Final title, and he’s been placed in a draw with Ben Shelton, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Alexander Zverev.

The Italian could become world number one again if he wins the tournament and other results from Carlos Alcaraz go his way.

The world number two has picked up just two losses at his previous three events, to players who are not playing the 2025 event.

Jannik Sinner of Italy lifts the trophy after his victory against Taylor Fritz of United States during the Men's Singles final match on day eight of the Nitto ATP finals 2024 at Inalpi Arena on November 17, 2024 in Turin, Italy.

Jannik Sinner’s two losses at the ATP Finals

The Italian won the tournament in 2024 and he did so without picking up a single defeat in his home country.

Sinner defeated Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Alex de Minaur, and Casper Ruud to win his maiden ATP Finals in 2024.

In 2023, Sinner reached the final, but he saw his campaign ended by an inspired Novak Djokovic, who lifted his seventh ATP Finals title.

Sinner will not have to worry about Djokovic at this year’s event after his withdrawal from the tournament, and the only other player to beat the Italian at the event will also not be there.

The world number two’s first appearance at the tournament in 2021 saw him replace Matteo Berrettini as an alternate.

Sinner defeated Hubert Hurkacz, but he did not fare as well against Medvedev.

Medevdev beat Sinner in three sets during the group stage phase, before navigating himself all the way through to the final. The Russian star lost to Alexander Zverev in the final.

Medvedev did not qualify for the event this year, despite his turnaround in form during the latter stages of the season. He ended the season as World No. 13, just one place away from being an alternate.

What needs to happen for Jannik Sinner to reach world number one

Sinner returned to the world number one spot in the ATP Tour rankings after defeating Auger-Aliassime to win the Paris Masters.

However, the Italian returned to world number two once last year’s ATP Finals points were taken off the star.

Due to Sinner’s win at the tournament in 2024, 1500 points were taken off the Italian and he will need to win the event to return to the top of the rankings.

Sinner also needs results from Alcaraz in order to usurp his great rival at the top of the rankings.

Alcaraz needs just one more win to confirm his world number one spot heading into 2026 after defeating Alex de Minaur in his opening round game.
