Great Britain have an illustrious history at the Davis Cup, but they have tasted success just once in the last 89 years.

The nation won the illustrious international tournament nine times in 33 years between 1903 and 1936, but then a 79-year drought ensued.

Andy Murray inspired Great Britain to a win in 2015 as the Scot won all eight of his singles matches in the tournament.

Despite his incredible record in the tournament, two other British stars have scored more wins than Murray.

Great Britain’s leading players at the Davis Cup

Murray picked up 42 victories across his Davis Cup career since making his debut in 2005 as a 17-year-old.

The Scot defeated the likes of Marin Cilic, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Kei Nishikori while representing his country but two stars from the golden years of Britain’s Davis Cup campaigns hold more wins than Murray.

Fred Perry, who won four Davis Cup titles in his six years with Great Britain, is the record-holder for most wins for the nation. Perry won 45 matches and lost seven matches during his incredible Davis Cup career.

Years later, Mike Sangster was just two wins away from Perry’s record during Great Britain’s dry spell in the tournament between 1960 and 1968.

Which country will win the 2025 Davis Cup Finals?

Sangster holds the record for the most matches played for Great Britain at the Davis Cup, with 65 matches, and he won 43 of them.

That was one more than Murray achieved, although the Scot only needed 52 matches to reach 42 victories.

The two Davis Cup records Andy Murray does hold for Great Britain

Although Murray was ousted by Perry and Sangster in terms of victories, he does hold a set of records for Great Britain at the Davis Cup.

The star’s winning percentage of over 90% in singles matches for Great Britain cannot be beaten after he picked up 30 victories from his 33 matches.

Murray also holds the joint record for the most years as a Davis Cup player for Great Britain, having competed for 13 years.

The Scottish icon shares the record with Greg Rusedski, who played for 13 straight years from 1995 onwards.
