Andy Murray is the only British man to have won the US Open in the Open Era.
Murray won the US Open in 2012 after beating Novak Djokovic in the final.
This was the first Grand Slam title of his career, with Murray going on to win two Wimbledon titles after that.
Although no other British man has won the US Open in the Open Era, another of Murray’s compatriots did reach the final.

Two British men won the US Open in the Amateur Era, with Laurence Doherty winning the title in 1903, while Fred Perry won the tournament three times in his career.
Perry’s last title victory at the US Open came in 1936, and it was another 61 years until another British man reached the final of the New York major.

That man was Greg Rusedski, who made it all the way to his first Grand Slam final at the US Open in 1997.
Rusedski lost in the final of the US Open to Pat Rafter, and he was never able to reach the quarter-finals of any other Grand Slam tournament after that.
Just 11 years after Rusedski lost in the US Open final, Murray reached his first Grand Slam final at the 2008 tournament.
Murray lost in that final to Roger Federer, before winning his first Grand Slam at the US Open in 2012.
British women who have reached the US Open final in the Open Era
There have also been two British women reach the US Open final in the Open Era, but both went on to win the title.
Virginia Wade won the first Open Era edition of the US Open in 1968 after beating Billie Jean King in the final.
No British woman reached the final in New York since then until 2021, when Emma Raducanu won the US Open as a teenager, becoming the first qualifier in history to win a major.
