Roger Federer is the latest star to be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame, set to join the prestigious group as part of the class of 2026.
The 44-year-old is one of the sport’s most iconic individuals of all time, and thus it made perfect sense to welcome him into the fold as soon as he became eligible.
Players can only be considered for selection five years after their last professional match on tour, and must be selected by 75% of the voting group. This is made up of the tennis media, members of the Hall, fans and more.
When Roger Federer was proposed, there was likely little pushback.
And, looking ahead to the next set of inductees for the class of 2027, there’s an outstanding option that cannot be overlooked.

Federer, naturally, was incredibly humbled by the induction.
As graceful as ever, he claimed that it was ‘a tremendous honour to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions.’
He continued: “Throughout my career, I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me. It was very special to receive the news at Swiss Tennis, surrounded by the next generation of players — the place where my own journey first began.
“To be recognised in this way by the sport and by my peers is deeply humbling. I look forward to visiting Newport next August to celebrate this special moment with the tennis community.”
His official induction will come at the induction ceremony in Newport, Rhode Island, held on 27-29 August 2026.
It’s a testament to his talents that Federer has an ATP Finals record that still stands today, despite creating it in 2005, over 20 years ago.
Serena Williams must be the next inductee into the Tennis Hall of Fame
With Federer due to be inducted into the 2026 Hall of Fame, that means the Class of 2027 can feature a myriad of players who retired the year after the Swiss superstar’s final match (at Wimbledon in 2021).
That means that anyone who called time on their playing days in 2022 becomes eligible.
Interestingly, a whole host of legendary figures chose this year as the one to conclude their careers; chief among them was Serena Williams.
Widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, the 24-time singles Grand Slam champion, 16-time doubles Grand Slam champion, and four-time Olympic Gold medallist is surely guaranteed a spot amongst this elite group of individuals.
She enjoyed a career laden with silverware, and the legacy she has left in the sport and beyond will not soon be forgotten.
With Federer set to be inducted for 2026, Williams is the obvious choice to follow him the year after.
