Casper Ruud won his first Stockholm Open title on Sunday, defeating France’s Ugo Humbert in the final.

The Norwegian star was back to his best in Sweden, dropping just one set to Sebastian Korda on his way to the final.

After defeating Humbert 6-3, 6-2 in the final, the Frenchman remarked that he could not remember facing ‘someone playing this well at this level.’

Ruud, formerly world number two, will look to build on his superb Stockholm performance when competing at the Swiss Indoors event this week.

After claiming the title in Sweden, Ruud expressed his thoughts on social media.

Casper Ruud ‘so happy’ after Stockholm Open triumph

Ruud’s triumph in Sweden marked his second title of the year, following his capture of the Madrid Open title in May.

The 26-year-old certainly earned his title in Stockholm, achieving an ‘outstanding’ statistic. Before his victory in the final, Ruud defeated Marin Cilic, Sebastian Korda and Denis Shapovalov.

Ruud, who has now won 14 ATP Tour titles, said on Instagram: “What a week! I’m so happy — gave it everything I had, and then some.

“Huge thanks to my team, my sponsors, everyone who came out to support, and especially to Thomas and the organizers for making this tournament so special💛 You really made us feel at home.

“Not done yet… on to the next!”

Ruud’s next match is set to take place in Switzerland; he is due to face Frenchman Quentin Halys in the Swiss Indoors first round.

Ruud has played Halys twice before, beating the Frenchman on both occasions. In 2018, Ruud defeated Halys in five sets at the Australian Open.

In 2022, Ruud beat Halys in the Estoril Open semi-finals, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.

Casper Ruud’s outside chance of reaching the ATP Finals

If Ruud can win the Swiss Indoors title, he will be in an extremely strong position heading into the last couple of weeks of the season.
