Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori have qualified for the semi-final stage of the 2025 ATP Finals.

The Italian pair, who have won four Grand Slam titles combined across the doubles and mixed doubles formats, defeated Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos on Tuesday.

The pair, who have also beaten Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool at this year’s event, will face a German pair in their final round robin match: Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz.

Following their victory against Granollers and Zeballos, Bolelli and Vavassori have written themselves into the Italian history books.

Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli are the first Italian players to reach the Doubles semi-finals at the ATP Finals

Andrea Vavassori and Simone Bolelli will forever be remembered for their historic feat at the 2025 ATP Finals.

As per OptaAce, Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori are the first Italian players to reach the Doubles semi-finals at the ATP Finals since the event’s inception in 1970.

Both players have experienced significant success at the professional level while competing in doubles events.

Vavassori has won the French Open Mixed Doubles event once and the US Open Mixed Doubles event twice.

Bolelli has one Grand Slam doubles title to his name: the 2015 Australian Open Men’s Doubles title.

Who could Vavassori and Bolelli face in the semi-finals?

As it stands, the Italian pair would face Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten in the ATP Finals semi-finals. Heliovaara and Patten are currently second in their round robin group after defeating American pair Christian Harrison and Evan King in their first round robin match.

The Italians could also face British pair Neal Skupski and Joe Salisbury, who defeated Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic in their first round robin contest.

Tim Putz and Kevin Krawietz, the sixth seeds, are the defending champions in Turin. In 2024, the German pair defeated Arevalo and Pavic, and Bolelli and Vavassori to qualify for the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, they came through a titanic clash against Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson, winning 2-6, 3-6, 11-9.
