The greatest! Rafa Nadal 2019 dominance highlighted by new statistical analysis

Rafa Nadal was chosen as player of the year by tennishead magazine and that superiority is perfectly exposed by the latest detailed analysis

Rafa Nadal won 90% of his service games and 37% of his return games during 2019 which places him way ahead of every other player on the ATP Tour including his closest rivals Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

Winning both your own service games and breaking your opponents serve is the holy grail for any tennis professional as it shows a high level of performance in the two major elements of the game required to succeed. Many players perform very well at either of these disciplines but few can master both which only goes to prove what a dominant year 2019 has been for the Spanish star Nadal.

The graph below, developed by tennis analyst @vestige_du_jour, shows the spread of percentages for the top 85 players on the ATP tour in 2019

2019 serve and return game stats Nadal

During 2019 Nadal won two Grand Slam singles titles at the US Open and the French Open, he reached the final of the Australian Open, the semi final of Wimbledon plus helping his country Spain triumph at the Davis Cup. He finished the year as no.1 in the world and picked up two other Masters 1000 trophies in Canada and Rome
