Jannik Sinner’s victory against Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte-Carlo Masters ensured he will return to the world number one spot of the rankings.
Sinner’s victory over Alcaraz means the Italian now sits 440 ranking points above his Spanish rival following his win in Monte-Carlo.
However, with a busy clay court schedule to come there is scope for many changes in the rankings before Roland Garros.
Alcaraz has an immediate chance to take back his spot at the top of the ATP Tour rankings as soon as next week.

How Carlos Alcaraz can become world number one again
Alcaraz might be 440 ranking points away, but that will all change at the start of his home tournament at the Barcelona Open.
Alcaraz reached the final of the event last year, but he still has a chance to make up the ground on his rival.
How would you rate that Monte Carlo final out of 10?
Sinner and Alcaraz will be split by just 160 points during the Barcelona Open and a victory at the tournament would see the Spaniard return to the summit of the ATP Tour.
A win for Alcaraz at the Barcelona Open would sensationally see him go above Sinner by just 10 ranking points.
With a victory at the Barcelona Open, Alcaraz would be on 13,410 points while Sinner would hold 13,400 points.
With Sinner rumoured to be skipping the Madrid Open too, Alcaraz could become world number one instantly.
Why Carlos Alcaraz should be positive despite ranking slip
Alcaraz was confident he would lose the world number one spot and it’s easy to see why with Sinner playing so sensationally.
He was by far the better player in their Monte-Carlo Masters match and he deserved the victory at the clay court event.
Should Carlos Alcaraz hire another coach after his recent results?
If so, who should he hire? 🤔
However, there is plenty still to play for and Alcaraz should be confident of winning plenty of titles on the clay.
His appearance at the Madrid Open, especially, is a major chance to earn some much-needed ranking points over Sinner.
Neither man played the tournament in 2025 so they will both be hoping they can extend a lead at the top of the rankings.
With Alcaraz playing a bonus tournament over Sinner in Barcelona too, there is every chance Sinner’s world number one status lasts mere weeks.
