Juan Carlos Ferrero is once again a free agent, having shockingly split from Carlos Alcaraz just yesterday.

The two announced that they would be parting ways with emotional messages, thanking one another for a stunning partnership.

However, despite the fondness clearly shared, many have still been left scratching their heads, completely blindsided by such unexpected news.

Alexander Zverev, though, might have argued that such a split was always likely given the way he ended his working relationship with the Spaniard.

Speaking after their 2018 split, the player did not hold back in his assessment of the 45-year-old.

He revealed, at the time: “We had a kind of a fight in Australia after the Australian Open, which is fine when it involves me and him. I have those kinds of arguments [with other team members], and we are still working fine.

“That argument there involved my whole team, and there was a moment where he was very disrespectful towards everybody in my team, and that’s why I had to stop the relationship.”

Meanwhile, Ferrero attributed their split to Zverev’s lack of professionalism.

With Ferrero and Alcaraz’s split revealed just yesterday, this marks the second high-profile and seemingly acrimonious ending the coach has suffered.

And whilst his departure from his compatriot’s team will sting more, given the clear respect they shared between one another, reports have emerged that another disagreement proved to be the undoing of this relationship.

Many within the tennis world have been left scratching their heads, wondering what could possibly end such a successful partnership in seemingly no time at all.

After all, Carlos Alcaraz was on track to enjoy a career comparable to some of the sport’s best-ever players.

The hope is that such a huge loss does not upset his momentum after a phenomenal 2025 campaign.
