Roger Federer told the crowd his one and only Davis Cup win was ‘not for me’ as he dedicated the 2014 win to another star.
Switzerland played France in the 2014 Davis Cup final, and Federer confirmed his nation’s victory against France’s Richard Gasquet in a 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 win.
Federer was not ever-present for Switzerland in Davis Cup action, but did appear infrequently to help his country.
Despite adding the only major trophy left in Federer’s career, the Swiss superstar dedicated the victory to another star.

Roger Federer dedicated Switzerland’s 2015 Davis Cup win to Stan Wawrinka
Federer made sure to give a shout out to his compatriot Stan Wawrinka after they confirmed Switzerland’s very first Davis Cup win.
Wawrinka and Federer beat Serbia, Kazakhstan, and Italy before toppling the host nation in the final, and Federer was sure to pay tribute to Wawrinka.
“This one is for the boys,” said Federer after the match. This is not for me, I have won enough. I am just happy we can give everyone in our country a historic moment.”
“Stan has put in so much effort over the years. He played an unbelievable weekend and that is what gave me the opportunity today,” said Federer.
Wawrinka was always a reliable hand for his country in Davis Cup, and Federer made sure to give him his flowers.
Roger Federer only made one more appearance in the Davis Cup
At 34-years-old, Federer became a bit more picky about which events he would play as he continued to hunt for Grand Slam success.
As a result, the Swiss star only ever played one more Davis Cup event after claiming the championship in 2014.
The star played the next year as Switzerland looked to defend their crown in a winning effort against the Netherlands.
The Davis Cup that year was won by Great Britain, after Andy Murray brilliantly inspired his nation to victory.
