The British player who could achieve a major milestone after reaching his first ATP Challenger final

There are a number of young British stars battling away on the men’s tennis tour, hoping to rise up the ranks and compete on the ATP Tour.

Some, like Andy Murray and Jack Draper, have risen all the way to the top. Others have not been able to do so, despite their hard work.

Then there are anomalies – lower-ranked players who shock everyone on the biggest stage.

Oliver Tarvet did just this. Ranked 719 in the world, the Brit won three rounds of qualifying and one main-draw match at the 2025 Wimbledon Championships.

Another young British player, formerly the number one-ranked NCAA [college] player in America, is hoping to achieve another significant milestone in 2025.

Johannus Monday reaches his first ATP Challenger final

As reported by Mario Boccardi, British 23-year-old Johannus Monday is set to contest his first ATP Challenger Final on Sunday after defeating Mats Rosenkranz in the Sioux Falls Open semi-finals.

Monday has defeated three American players on his way to the final: Michael Zheng, Alfredo Perez and Andres Martin.

In the final, Monday will face another American player – fifth seed Patrick Kypson.

Monday is already set to achieve a career high-ranking after Sioux Falls, as he currently sits at 212 on the ATP live rankings.

However, he could break into the ATP top 200 for the first time in his career, if he beats Kypson in Sunday’s final.

Johannus Monday’s next tournament

Following his participation at the Sioux Falls Open, Johannus Monday is set to take part in another US Challenger event in Charlottesville.

In the first round, eighth-seeded Monday is scheduled to face another American – Ronit Karki.

Monday has made one appearance in an ATP Tour main-draw match, losing to Tommy Paul in the 2025 Wimbledon first round.

Remarkably, Monday has won all eight of his ATP Challenger finals, dating back to June 2022.

He has won seven Challenger tournaments in America, in South Bend, Decatur, Louisville, East Lansing, Harlingen, Norman and Bakersfield.
