Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are currently the dominant forces on the ATP Tour, having won the last eight Grand Slam tournaments combined.

However, many players, even those competing at the elite level, can go through periods of bad form.

For example, Frances Tiafoe, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Daniil Medvedev have all experienced difficult seasons on the ATP Tour.

Even Casper Ruud – who won a Masters 1000 title in Madrid this year – has struggled, having failed to advance past the second round at any of the three Grand Slam tournaments he has played in 2025.

There is another lesser-known ATP player who has suffered a torrid six months on the Tour, having lost 14 of his last 18 matches.

Sebastian Baez has remained in the top 50 despite failing to win consecutive matches for six months

Argentinian Sebastian Baez has won just five of his last 21 matches at the ATP level.

In fact, the Argentine player has failed to win consecutive singles matches on the ATP Tour since reaching the final of the Bucharest Open in early April.

Between April 26 and July 1, Baez lost five consecutive matches at ATP-level events.

After the Bucharest Open, Baez was ranked 33rd. Despite his poor spell of form, the 24-year-old has only fallen 11 places in the rankings, to world number 44.

During the six-month period, Baez’s five singles victories have come against Damian Dzumhur, young star Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, David Goffin, Pablo Carreno Busta and Zhizhen Zhang.

Most recently, the Argentine lost to lucky loser Valentin Royer in the European Open first round.

However, Baez is set to achieve something quite extraordinary, despite the loss.

Baez is set to move up in the rankings

Remarkably, as per the ATP live rankings, Sebastian Baez is currently set to move up one place, to world number 43.

This is because French player Alexandre Muller also lost in the first round at the Stockholm Open.

Muller won his opening match at the 2024 Stockholm Open against young Swedish player Leo Borg. Consequently, the Frenchman has lost 12 ATP points following his defeat at the hands of Miomir Kecmanovic.

Muller will be on 1553 ATP points following this week’s play. Baez will be on 1,555 points.

However, Baez’s ranking is subject to change, depending on future results in ATP tournaments this week.
