Denis Shapovalov remains one of the brightest talents on the ATP Tour.
The Canadian first made a name for himself at the 2017 Canadian Open. At 18 years old, Shapovalov defeated Juan Martin del Potro and Rafael Nadal on his way to the semi-finals.
Later that same year, Shapovalov became the youngest player to enter the ATP top 50 since Rafael Nadal, who retired from tennis in 2024.

Shapovalov achieved a career-high ranking of 10 in 2020, but has since failed to live up to the expectations that many [perhaps unfairly] placed on the Canadian’s shoulders at an early stage in his career.
This year, the 25-year-old has enjoyed some success, winning two ATP Tour titles. However, he will need to significantly improve one area of his game moving forward if he hopes to re-enter the Tour’s top 10.
Denis Shapovalov has hit the most double faults on the ATP Tour this year
In October, Denis Shapovalov reflected on the 2025 season and discussed his future goals while in conversation with Action Network.
The Canadian, who has won titles in Dallas and Los Cabos this year, acknowledged that it has been a ‘good season.’

“It has definitely been a good season for me. I want to keep pushing up the ranking, but of course, it takes time to come back from an injury,” Shapovalov said.
I think I have halved my ranking from last year, so hopefully I can keep going next season.”
“My ultimate goal is definitely to get back into the top 10, and I feel like I at least have one more push in my career. I am still young and have a lot of time.”

It has certainly been a good season for the Canadian – he has risen from world number 56 at the end of 2024, to world number 23.
However, he must become more consistent on serve if he is to challenge for the biggest prizes in the sport.
Astonishingly, Shapovalov has served the most double faults of any player on the ATP Tour this year: 302.
Alexander Bublik has served the next most – 299. Daniil Medvedev, Learner Tien and Felix Auger-Aliassime follow on, having served 277, 235 and 234 double faults respectively.

Denis Shapovalov’s first ATP Tour title
Shapovalov won his first ATP Tour event at the 2019 Stockholm Open.
Shapovalov, seeded fourth, defeated Alexei Popyrin, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe and lucky loser Yuichi Sugita to reach the final.
In the final, the Canadian beat Filip Krajinović 6-4, 6-4.
He has since won three more titles: in Belgrade, Los Cabos and Dallas.
