The Australian Open has continued its unpredictability into day two, with several high-profile names crashing out of the tournament.

Arthur Fery’s upset win against Flavio Cobolli was the headline maker on day one, but the upsets spilled over to Monday.

Emma Navarro was dumped out by Magda Linette, while Arthur Gea stunned Jiri Lehecka, despite being 145 places below him in the ATP Tour rankings.

Elsewhere, Botic van de Zandschulp dumped out the seeded Brandon Nakashima, which continued a wretched record for the American.

Brandon Nakashima loses first Australian Open match for the eighth year in a row

Nakashima came into the Australian Open in good form, having reached the final of the Brisbane International.

He slipped into seeded entry to the tournament thanks to his World No. 29 ranking, but that wasn’t enough to stop his awful record at the Melbourne event.

Nakashima’s loss to van de Zandschulp means the American has now lost eight straight matches at the Australian Open.

The American is yet to taste victory at the tournament, in either the first round of qualifying or the main draw.

He has lost two qualifying round one matches in his career in 2021 and 2024, to Aslan Karatsev and Jakub Mensik respectively.

In the main draw, the star has suffered a similar fate with four losses against Matteo Berrettini, Mackenzie McDonald, Ben Shelton, and now van de Zandschulp.

The star will now have to wait an entire year to try and change one of the more baffling records in the sport.

Every seed to fall from the Australian Open so far

The men’s draw has seen five seeds fall after two days of action at the Australian Open, with Félix Auger-Aliassime’s withdrawal the biggest shock so far.

Leg cramping ensured the Canadian, who is the world number seven, could not compete against Nuno Borges.

Lehecka, Cobolli, Arthur Rinderknech, and Nakashima have also exited the event after losing their first round matches.

Five seeds have also fallen from the women’s draw, with Ekaterina Alexandrova the highest seed to drop out in the first round.

Navarro, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, and former Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin also departed in the first round.
