American men’s tennis is enjoying a revival, with Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton currently occupying positions in the top 10 of the ATP Tour rankings.

Both men hit career rankings high in 2025, with Fritz hitting world number four and Shelton falling just one place behind his compatriot.

Shelton qualified for his first ATP Finals this term thanks to his first Masters title victory at the Canadian Open.

Fritz, meanwhile, continued his quest to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, although he’s yet to beat the men on the ATP Tour.

There could be another American cracking the top 50 of the rankings after his performances on the Challenger circuit.

Emilio Nava excels on the ATP Challenger circuit in 2025

Rising American 23-year-old Emilio Nava has topped two impressive lists on the Challenger Tour this season.

Nava has won the joint-most Challenger titles in 2025 with four tournament wins, sharing the record with Patrick Kypson, Jan Choinski, Nicolai Budkov Kjaer, Cristian Garin, and Borin Coric.

Nava has also managed to win 44 matches on the Challenger Tour this term, which is more than every other player except one.

Only Canada’s Liam Draxl can match Nava’s 44 victories, as the two men will surely look to make the step up to the ATP Tour in 2026.

Nava is currently the World No. 88 after his performances in 2025, which is a career ranking high for the American.

Who will have the best comeback season in 2026?

The 23-year-old has won tournaments all around the world this season, including Argentina, the United States, and Chile.

He also made several steps on the ATP Tour this season, especially on the American hardcourt swing in the summer.

The star received a wild card for the US Open this year, where he lost in straight sets to Fritz, and he also made the main draw at the Washington Open and the Cincinnati Open.

Emilio Nava has trained with Carlos Alcaraz

Nava moved to Juan Carlos Ferrero’s academy in Spain when he was a teenager and he found himself training with a certain Alcaraz.

The American was floored by how good the current world number one was, and he shared what he learned from the Spaniard.

Speaking to Punto de Break, the American said: “I was always trying to watch his training when we practiced together, I was amazed at how good he was.

“I think it was his consistency that impacted me the most, but his mental consistency. He was always very positive, he always walked in a straight line, which made him very positive. Never have ups and downs, he is a person who is always positive and consistent.”

Nava and Alcaraz are yet to play on the ATP Tour, but that long-awaited match could come soon thanks to the American’s ascent up the rankings.
