America’s contingent of elite male tennis players has certainly strengthened in recent years, with the likes of Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton leading the way.
Shelton and Fritz, along with the likes of Frances Tiafoe and Learner Tien, will be hoping to end the long wait for an American men’s Grand Slam singles champion at some point during their respective careers.
Unfortunately for American fans, no male American player has won a Grand Slam singles title since Andy Roddick at the 2003 US Open.
However, American fans have hope, as another young American star could be set to join Shelton and Fritz at the pinnacle of the ATP Tour after his meteoric rise in 2025.
Jenson Brooksby rises 1000 ATP ranking spots in eight months
Jenson Brooksby had already achieved something momentous before losing to compatriot Taylor Fritz in the Japan Open semi-finals on Monday.

On January 27, Brooksby was ranked 1091 in the world, as per Tennis TV. Eight months on, the American is ranked 57th on the ATP Tour.
This is far from new territory for Brooksby, who first made his Grand Slam debut in 2018 and reached a career-high ranking of world number 34 in 2022.
However, the American was suspended from competing in July 2023 and did not return until the Australian Open in 2025.
Brooksby won his first match since 2023 at the 2025 San Diego Open, before defeating Benjamin Bonzi and Felix Auger-Aliassime in Indian Wells.
Following a first-round exit in Miami, Brooksby stunned the field in Houston, winning his first ATP Tour title despite being a wildcard ranked 507th in the world.
By winning the Houston title, Brooksby became the third-lowest-ranked ATP Tour champion, after Marin Cilic and Lleyton Hewitt.

Jenson Brooksby will face a qualifier in round one of the Shanghai Masters
The American star has been handed a rather fortunate draw for the upcoming Shanghai Masters tournament.
Brooksby will face a qualifier in the first round, before a potential match against 27th seed Tallon Griekspoor.
If the American can win his first two contests, he could face world number two Jannik Sinner in the third round.
Brooksby and Sinner’s only previous contest came four years ago at the 2021 Washington Open.

In that match, Sinner emerged victorious, winning 7-6, 6-1.
