Mashona Washington, who has been playing doubles with Bethanie Mattek-Sands at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells this week, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of felony vandalism according to local newspaper reports.

The charge is said to involve estimated damage of $5,000 or more and was covered by the Palm Springs newspaper the Desert Sun.

The 32-year-old was arrested at her hotel, the Hyatt Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells, and later released on bail.

The Houston-born player peaked at a career-high singles ranking of No.50 in 2004 and is currently ranked world No.132 in the world doubles list.

Washington and Mattek lost in the semi-finals of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Premier event to Spaniards Nuria Llagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-1, 6-2 on Wednesday.
