Taylor Fritz’s 2025 season is finally over, and he, more than most, will gladly welcome this break from tennis.
After all, once again the American has been one of the busiest players on tour over the past 11 months, playing a staggering 64 matches, concluding this week.
Ironically, this is just six shy of the 70 he managed the year prior.
What makes Taylor Fritz’s schedule even more gruelling is that his play style is far from efficient. Whilst he can blitz through matches with ease, every shot he makes looks exhausting.
David Law, speaking on the Tennis Podcast, has touched upon that very topic after hearing the 27-year-old make a really worrying claim earlier this week.
Taylor Fritz makes ‘worrying’ claim about his fitness
The pundit began by claiming: “I listened to all the press conferences the other morning, and Fritz was talking quite worryingly I thought about tendonitis in his knees and saying that he now can’t play consecutive days without quite a lot of pain, like really being impeded and not being able to quite push off and I guess be as explosive as he wants to be.
“And it sounds… I mean, he says, look, why would I do anything dramatic when I could still play like that against Alcaraz even though I’ve got this pain? So he’s that’s the way he’s looking at it, but that’s not ideal, is it?
“He says the only way you can solve it, really, is by having time off and kind of realigning, rebuilding, and all that sort of stuff. And, well, at least, you know, now the season is over, so hopefully, I hope for his sake that that gets sorted out.”
Law then echoed the earlier sentiment about Fritz’s physically demanding philosophy, adding: “But he does pound those knees. I mean, you know, you think, he just, although he wins points efficiently in a way, he’s got his patterns, it’s physically demanding still. He plays a lot of hard-court tennis; he plays a lot of tennis generally, and I just wonder whether we’re going to see more of this with players like him who’ve just been so reliable.
“I mean, Zverev’s been banging on about how many injuries he’s had this year. You know, these guys have got quite a few miles on the clock. So, I am interested to see whether we can go again, because as you say, it’s one thing having the trying to improve your top level so that you can get that win that you’re so searching for again the top couple, but what if you sort of lose your floor a bit because you’re physically impeded or because you’re mentally fried or… It’s a tough sport.”
Does Taylor Fritz play too many tennis matches?
In an era where more and more players seem to be complaining about the rigours of the tennis calendar, Fritz simply puts his head down and gets on with it.
Naturally, he has voiced his opinion on the matter, with Fritz and Jack Draper recently discussing the schedule on social media. But when it comes to his own personal schedule, he packs it as tightly as he possibly can.
Only five players on the ATP Tour have played more matches than he has in 2025. Nobody forced him to play as much as he has.

With that, many have questioned his decision-making in this area, accusing him of perhaps playing too much tennis.
However, when that suggestion was put to his coach, Michael Russell, he revealed: “Yeah, he does like to play, kudos to him, he’s extremely stubborn, but he’s one of the most competitive human beings that I’ve ever met, which is a big positive for his character, which is why you see that never-say-die attitude, fighting for every point.
“But, sometimes he enjoys the competition a lot more than training, which is understandable, but at the same time, having those training blocks is really important.”
