Taylor Fritz provides another knee injury update after shaky win over Jaume Munar

Taylor Fritz came through a thriller with Jaume Munar to level the United States’ tie with Spain after a three hours and 14 minutes epic.

Fritz saved a match point against Munar in the third set and eventually confirmed the victory with a tie-break.

The American needed to beat Munar as Coco Gauff suffered a shock defeat to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the United States’ opening match with Spain.

Fritz has been dealing with a knee injury at the United Cup and he provided an update on his ongoing issue after defeating Munar.

Taylor Fritz shares update on knee injury

Fritz might have struggled against Munar, but the American star suggested it was not down to his knee injury.

He praised his Spanish counterpart, before providing an update on the issue that plagued him against Sebastian Baez.

Who will be the United Cup MVP? Anyone else? Let us know in the comments

After the match, Fritz revealed: “The knee is something I’m going to be dealing with for a while. I started feeling it towards the end of the first set but it didn’t get any worse.

“Typically I start feeling it and it gets worse and worse and worse until I can’t even bend it. So I’m really happy with the fact that it stayed at the level it was at and it wasn’t bad enough to stop me from playing through.”

Fritz’s victory against Munar inspired the United States to come back against Spain, after Gauff and Christian Harrison won their doubles match against Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers and Íñigo Cervantes.

The United States have now finished top of their group and will proceed to the quarter-finals of the United Cup.

Is Taylor Fritz making a mistake?

Fritz is one of a select few ATP Tour players who look like they could challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz at Grand Slams, but he will have to be at full fitness in order to do so.

It begs the question, then, of why Fritz has decided to play the United Cup while he is still suffering with a knee injury from 2025.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

The tournament is only a 250 event and, outside of representing your country, is not worth putting yourself in a worse position for the first Grand Slam of the year.

As yet, Fritz is yet to confirm himself for another tournament before the Australian Open, so he could still have the time to ease his injury fears.

The star has not currently signed on to play the Adelaide International and will head straight from Sydney to Melbourne for the Grand Slam.
