Taylor Fritz has chosen to prioritise Wimbledon over the Eastbourne Open.
Fritz, once a major finalist at the US Open, announced his Eastbourne Open withdrawal on Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor Fritz’s message after withdrawing from Eastbourne
“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from Eastbourne this year,” the world number seven said in a statement on X [formerly Twitter].
“I waited up until after the match warmup to make the decision today because I really did want to play.
“This is never an easy decision for me, especially when it involves a tournament that means so much to me.

“Anyone who knows me knows I hate withdrawing from events.
“Eastbourne has given me some of my favourite memories on court, and the support I’ve received from the fans over the years has been incredible.
“That’s what makes this so difficult, but with Wimbledon just around the corner, I have to make the decision that gives me the best chance of being 100 per cent and ready to compete at my best.
“While I know it’s the right call, it doesn’t make it any less disappointing. I’m very sorry to the fans, the tournament, and everyone who was looking forward to seeing me play.
“Thank you to Eastbourne for always making me feel so welcome, and I hope to be back on these courts again soon.”
Taylor Fritz’s Eastbourne Open finals
- 2019: defeated Sam Querrey 6-3, 6-4 in the final
- 2022: defeated Maxime Cressy 6–2, 6–7, 7–6 in the final
- 2024: defeated Max Purcell 6–4, 6–3 in the final
- 2025: defeated Jenson Brooksby 7–5, 6–1 in the final
Fritz will now shift his attention to Wimbledon, which is due to begin on June 29.
Last year, the American defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and Karen Khachanov on his way to the semi-finals.
In the last four, he was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in four sets.

Taylor Fritz’s 2025 Eastbourne Open campaign
Fritz, the top seed at last year’s event, received an automatic bye to the second round.
There, he defeated Joao Fonseca 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.
The American then beat compatriot Marcos Giron, before moving past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three sets.
By defeating Fokina, Fritz set up a final clash with fellow American Jenson Brooksby.
After a close opening set, Fritz ran away with the contest, triumphing 7-5, 6-1.
“There’s something about Eastbourne – I just love it here,” Fritz said afterwards. “Every year I come here and it’s just such a good week. Everything feels good.

“All the other years I felt like I was very fortunate to not have to play in the wind, which is pretty crazy for how often it is windy here. I fought through a lot of matches, and I just got better and better with each match. I feel like I really upped my level in this match and played a good one.
“Every year I’ve been here the support at this tournament is incredible. The energy around the site and how excited everyone is to have the tournament here is great to see.”
