Taylor Fritz’s 2026 campaign has been one completely ravaged by injuries thus far.

In fact, his year was already blighted before it had even begun, as he admitted to suffering from a recurrence of past knee and oblique issues.

The former, now diagnosed as tendonitis, does not seem to be going away anytime soon.

And, with that in mind, Andy Roddick has proposed a radical solution.

Andy Roddick offers Taylor Fritz crucial advice

Speaking on the latest Q&Andy segment of his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the American pundit had some words of wisdom for his compatriot.

After all, when asked if Taylor Fritz should consider skipping the clay-court season, Roddick simply offered the non-negotiable condition for such a bold decision: “If you’re hurt.”

He then added: “I mean, if he’s healthy, he wants to go play it. I mean, like, listen, I’ve given Taylor a lot of credit on the show for being just a workhorse. He shows up every week, and unlike a lot of people who show up every week, he competes every week.

“Like, the guy’s an Uber professional, but also, if you have a lingering knee issue, you take the time during the parts of the year where you’re probably gonna be the least successful.

“Like, is it smart to play through at Indian Wells or Miami? Yeah, probably your likelihood of playing through that there and getting a result… It didn’t work out for them, because there’s no script in tennis, but, yeah, I mean, if if I had something bothering me, I was more likely to try to heal it during the part of the season, that was the biggest struggle for me, not only style wise, but, you know, physically on a knee, if you’re not a natural mover, you can put more stress on the body that way.

“I think if Taylor’s hurt, this is, like, a no-brainer for him to take off this part of the year.”

Fritz recently admitted he’s hesitant to take a break from tennis, but advice from someone as revered as Roddick could alter that stance.

How did Taylor Fritz perform on clay in 2025?

Another reason for Fritz potentially skipping this year’s clay-court campaign is because of how he struggled last season.

As such, he has very few points to defend, and the likelihood of him playing and gaining a huge swing is unlikely with his current ailments.

He lost in the Round of 16 in Madrid and the very first round in Rome. Then, seeking form ahead of Roland Garros, the 28-year-old opted to play in Geneva.

Despite being the top seed, Fritz lost in just his second match before suffering another first-round exit at Roland Garros.
