Svitolina & Wozniacki reach Toronto final

Due to inclement weather in Toronto yesterday, the Ukrainian was on double duty on Saturday afternoon. The energetic 22-year-old recovered from a set down to take out Garbine Muguruza 4-6 6-4 6-3 before thrashing defending champion, Simona Halep, 6-1 6-1, in just 56 minutes.

It was a particularly pleasing semi-final triumph for Svitolina as she suffered a painful defeat to Halep at the French Open earlier this summer. The Ukrainian will attempt to win a 5th title of 2017 on Sunday against former world No.1 Caroline Wozniacki.

The Dane was at her consistent best as she recorded a 6-2 6-3 success over a frustrated Sloane Stephens. It’s been another outstanding week for the world No.6 and she has another opportunity to end her losing streak in finals this year.

The finalists have met twice before – both on hard-courts – and Svitolina has prevailed on both occasions.
