Mirra Andreeva defeated Maja Chwalinska in the French Open final to clinch her first major title.
In doing so, she became just the fourth Russian woman to win a Grand Slam singles title, following in the footsteps of Anastasia Myskina, Maria Sharapova, and Svetlana Kuznetsova.
How many Grand Slams does Mirra Andreeva win in her career? 🏆
After the final, Kuznetsova pinpointed three areas where Andreeva can still improve.
Svetlana Kuznetsova thinks Mirra Andreeva can improve her forehand, movement, and volleys
Appearing as a guest on ‘The Final by Hesperide‘, Kuznetsova delivered her immediate reaction to Andreeva’s win.
“Amazing to see Mirra [Andreeva] win her first title. I’m really happy and proud of her,” she said.

“I just spoke to her mum, ‘Look, you can relax now, at least you have one!’
“Now, it’s a little bit of a release for her, from my side of view, and I think now she can not have so much expectations.
“All this time, in Russia, everybody was ‘When you win? When you win your first Grand Slam? Now she has it, now time to move on and to bigger things, maybe.
“It’s a new chapter; from now on, it’s another start, and if she can prove this and win many more, I think it’s possible; we will see.”

Kuznetsova was then asked where she thinks Andreeva can still improve.
“Once, my coach, Stefan Ortega, with whom I worked for many years, always said to me, ‘The sky is the limit,” she said.
“I believe [that] for Andreeva as well.
“She can improve her forehand, for sure. Her movement, because she can be faster moving in the court. She’s playing good spin for clay, and her serve has definitely gotten much better. She can improve everywhere, and volleys, of course.”
The two-time Grand Slam champion also believes Andreeva can make more progress with her mentality.
“Last few months, she improved slowly. She was very emotional before, and now we can see she was a bit stressed in a few games, especially in the end as well, but she now knows when to do what,” said Kuznetsova.
“But there is a big way to improve there.”
Finally, Kuznetsova commented on whether Andreeva should celebrate her win or get straight back to work.
“I’ve been analysing this for many years. For example, Carlos Alcaraz, how he can do this, he does an amazing result, winning French Open, and then goes for one week in Ibiza or somewhere!” she said.

“For us, and our mentality, it was not possible.
“This generation they take it differently, they say, ok, cool, then move on and start to play again. But for us, from our parents, coaches, it was impossible: ‘No, it’s impossible, don’t do this’.
“These guys do this, and they relax, so I think, why not! If she can handle it!
“But tennis is difficult because every week, the more you win, the more pressure you have.
“Your next opponents want to win against you more, so you have to relax your mind because otherwise you stay in tension all the time.”
Andreeva deserves to celebrate the biggest win of her career, but it won’t be long before she’s back in action.
Mirra Andreeva’s grass-court schedule ahead of Wimbledon
The 19-year-old is currently scheduled to compete in two events before Wimbledon.
Andreeva will travel to Germany for the Berlin Open and the Bad Homburg Open.
The Berlin Open is set to be one of the most competitive WTA 500 events of the season, with nine top-10 players in attendance.
Andreeva will hope to perform better than she did a year ago, where she lost her opening match to Poland’s Magdalena Frech.

She then lost her quarter-final match at the Bad Homburg Open, heading to Wimbledon with a 1-2 record on grass.
Her form didn’t affect her, though, as Andreeva reached the Wimbledon quarter-finals.
Still, she will be keen to carry her French Open-winning momentum forward and impress in Berlin and Bad Homburg before Wimbledon this year.
The 2026 Berlin Open begins on Monday, June 15.
