Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic was a 6-1 6-4 winner against Germany’s Andrea Petkovic in another first-round contest.

Ioana Raluca Olaru was made to work hard for her place in the next round, the Romanian overcoming Lucie Hradecka 6-2 2-6 6-1.
