Steffi Graf’s historic tennis feat that not even Novak Djokovic or Serena Williams have beaten

Steffi Graf is considered one of the greatest players in WTA Tour history – understandably so.

The German star, now aged 56, won 22 Grand Slam singles titles during her career, and became the only player in history to win the ‘Golden Slam’ in 1988.

To explain further, Graf won every Grand Slam event in 1988, and an Olympic gold medal in Women’s Singles.

She also spent a record 377 weeks as the world number one and finished as the year-end number one a record eight times.

Graf, who trails only Serena Williams and Margaret Court for Grand Slam singles titles won, is the holder of an unbelievable record.

Steffi Graf is the only player in history to complete the quadruple career Grand Slam

No player in tennis history has won each Grand Slam four times or more – except for Steffi Graf.

During her career, Graf won four Australian Open titles, six French Opens, seven Wimbledon Championships, and five US Open titles.

Who will win the 2026 Australian Open Women’s Singles title?

Graf won her first Grand Slam title at the 1988 Australian Open. Her last came 11 years later, at the 1999 French Open.

Chris Evert, an 18-time major winner who holds the record for the most French Open title wins in women’s tennis history, previously noted Graf’s greatness while speaking on ESPN Classic’s SportsCentury series.

She said: “Steffi Graf’s the best all-around player. Martina [Navratilova] won more on fast courts and I won more on slow courts, but Steffi came along and won more titles on both surfaces.”

Novak Djokovic’s opportunity

Novak Djokovic is the player with the best opportunity to match Steffi Graf’s otherworldly feat.

Djokovic, a 24-time major winner, is already the first man in history to win each Grand Slam at least three times.

Djokovic has won 10 Australian Opens, three French Opens, seven Wimbledon titles and four US Open titles.

If Djokovic wins the 2026 French Open, he would match Graf’s record.

The Serbian star certainly has a chance. He is one of the few players who can challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner on the surface, and he will have extra motivation: the opportunity to go one clear of Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
