Stefanos Tsitsipas was unable to prevent Greece from exiting the United Cup at the hands of the USA.
Coco Gauff gave the US a lead after beating Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-2 in Perth, before Stefanos Tsitsipas stunned world number six Taylor Fritz, defeating the 2024 US Open finalist 6-4, 7-5.
In the deciding mixed doubles rubber, Gauff and Christian Harrison defeated Tsitsipas and Sakkari 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Following the contest, Tsitsipas posted a message on social media.
Stefanos Tsitsipas congratulates the US team on their win against Greece in the United Cup quarter-finals.
In a post on X [formerly Twitter], Tsitsipas said: “We gave it all in the deciding doubles; kudos to Team USA for coming through a close one.
“Thank you for partnering up with me this week Maria Sakkari – we’re both leaving Perth with great memories and confidence.
“So long United Cup, we’ll be back.”

The US will continue their United Cup journey later this week when they face Poland or Australia in the semi-finals.
If Poland advance, Iga Swiatek and Hubert Hurkacz will be motivated to enact revenge for their loss in the 2025 United Cup final.
In the 2025 final, Coco Gauff defeated Swiatek in straight sets and Taylor Fritz beat Hurkacz in three close sets, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6.
Poland also lost the 2024 final to Germany. Swiatek defeated Angelique Kerber and Hurkacz lost to Alexander Zverev, before Swiatek and Hurkacz lost the deciding rubber to Zverev and Laura Siegemund, 6-4, 5-7, 10-4.
Stefanos Tsitsipas’ next tournament
After representing his nation in Perth, Tsitsipas will travel west for the Adelaide Open.
The tournament, an ATP 250 event, is set to run from January 12 to 17, a day before the start of the 2026 Australian Open.
Who will win the 2026 men’s Australian Open?
Tsitsipas will likely be the fifth seed at the event, behind Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Jiri Lehecka, Tommy Paul and Joao Fonseca.
Felix Auger-Aliassime, the defending champion, is not scheduled to compete at the event.
Auger-Aliassime, a dark horse for the Australian Open title, is set to contest an Australian Open exhibition match against Jannik Sinner on January 17.
