Stan Wawrinka has been training with Gael Monfils ahead of the Monte Carlo Masters
Stan Wawrinka has posted a number of images on his Instagram account and story showing himself alongside Gael Monfils on court in Monte Carlo.
Wawrinka captioned the post with a message, saying: “One last time my friend.”

Monfils, like Wawrinka, is set to retire from his playing career at the end of this year.
Monfils expressed gratitude for his career during his retirement announcement in January, saying this year is the right time to say ‘goodbye.’
“When you love something so much, it never feels like a good time to say goodbye,” wrote Monfils in a post on X.
“But 40 will be the right time for me. Of course, winning one more title before I’m done would be truly incredible. Truthfully though, my only real goal for the year ahead is simple.
“To enjoy every minute, and to play each match like it’s my last.”

Monfils, like Wawrinka, has achieved a great deal throughout his two-decade career on the ATP Tour.
The former world number six, who has won 13 ATP Tour titles, will be remembered fondly for his ability to entertain a crowd, and for his achievements on the court.
The Frenchman, widely regarded as one of the most friendly players on Tour, will also be remembered for his extraordinary athleticism.

Monfils won their next two matches in Tokyo and Valencia, before Wawrinka equalled their record at 2-2 at the 2011 Australian Open.
Six years later, the pair contested their fifth match – this time at Roland Garros. Wawrinka won the fourth-round contest 7-5, 7-6, 6-2.

Monfils defeated Wawrinka two years later at the 2019 Rotterdam Open, levelling their record at 3-3.
Wawrinka won their last match on Tour, defeating Monfils 7-6, 6-4, 7-6 in the 2024 Wimbledon second round.
