Stan Wawrinka’s retirement year has been an overwhelming success already, as the Swiss legend has proved he can still compete with the very best on the ATP Tour.
The three-time Grand Slam champion has already claimed six victories this year, which has helped him crack the top 100 of the rankings again.
Wawrinka lost to Daniil Medvedev in Dubai to bring an end to the final Middle Eastern swing of his active career.
Ahead of his appearances at Indian Wells and the Miami Open, Wawrinka has added a summer tournament to his schedule.

Wawrinka has been confirmed to play the Estoril Open in 2026, which has been moved to July for the first time.
The Swiss star has never played the Estoril Open and this will mark his first time in Portugal since winning the 2013 Portugal Open in Oeiras.
Wawrinka lifted the trophy after defeating David Ferrer in a star-studded clay court final and he is ecstatic to be back in the country.

Speaking in a video clip posted by the tournament on social media, Wawrinka revealed: “Hello Portugal! I’m very happy to announce that I will be coming to play the Estoril Open in July.
“I’m excited to expand the summer in Escais. This is my last year on Tour, being part of such a unique and special event is very special.
“I’m so happy to be back in Portugal, it’s been too long. I’m looking forward to seeing my fans there. Tennis, summer, great vibes, in Estoril. It’s a match!”
The Estoril Open has been upgraded to an ATP 250 event after one year as a Challenger 175, which was won by Alex Michelsen.

Wawrinka’s career looked on the cusp of petering out last year, when he was struggling to find any form on the ATP Tour.
The Swiss star was mainly competing at Challenger events and he only picked up five victories at the top level across 2025.
