Spaniard Medina Garrigues dropped the second set but battled back to secure a 6-1 5-7 6-1 win over Argentina’s Gisela Dulko.

She will now meet fourth seed Alona Bondarenko in the last four. The Ukrainian beat China’s Zheng Jie 7-5 7-5.

Unseeded Italian Sara Errani overcame Belgian qualifier Kirsten Flipkens 6-3 6-4 and will take on second seed Shahar Peer for a place in the final.

Peer overcame Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 7-5.
