The seventh-seeded Swede had claimed the first title of his career on the indoor carpet at this event back in 2004. By winning here again, he secured his first title since 2005.

The run to the title was an impressive one for Soderling, who had beaten American Andy Roddick in the quarter-finals.

Frenchman Benneteau was unable to take advantage of a partisan home crowd as he failed in his bid to win his first ATP singles title.
