Mirra Andreeva only dropped one set en route to winning her first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.

Andreeva beat qualifier Maja Chwalinska 6-3, 6-2 to win her first major title at just 19 years old.

This was one of six straight sets victories Andreeva had in Paris this year, having also beaten the likes of Marta Kostyuk and Sorana Cirstea without dropping a set.

Andreeva only lost a set in one of her matches at Roland Garros this year, but that was against a player ranked outside the top 140.

Bassols Ribera had never even won a Grand Slam main draw match before Roland Garros this year, and as the world number 175 needed to play qualifying in Paris.

The 26-year-old produced an impressive victory over former world number one Karolina Pliskova en route to qualifying for Roland Garros for the first time.

In the first round, Bassols Ribera would beat Emiliana Arango 6-3, 6-4 to win the first Grand Slam main draw match of her career.

Bassols Ribera was then faced with the tough opposition of eighth seed Andreeva, but an upset seemed to be on the cards after she won the set 6-3.

She would only win two more games in the match, which Andreeva won 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, but Bassols Ribera did not know at the time that she would be the only player to win a set against the eventual champion.

What is Marina Bassols Ribera’s career-high ranking?

Bassols Ribera has been rewarded for her first ever Grand Slam main draw win, as she has now climbed 31 places in the rankings to world number 144.

This is still some way from Bassols Ribera’s career-high ranking of world number 105, which she achieved in February 2024.

Bassols Ribera achieved this ranking after winning two WTA 125 level titles, at the Ljubljana Open and Andorra Open.

Despite having been only five places from the top 100, Bassols Ribera has only won one main draw match on the WTA Tour.

Bassols Ribera’s only main tour win on the WTA Tour came at the Iasi Open in 2024, having lost all of the other tour-level matches she has played.

The Spaniard will be hoping to reproduce some of the same tennis she showed at Roland Garros this year, as Bassols Ribera looks to move back to her career-high ranking and make her top 100 debut.
