Rick Macci has spotted one aspect of the WTA Tour that puts the quality of players at an ‘all-time high’.

The WTA Tour has been extremely competitive in 2025, which has been only heightened by Mirra Andreeva failing to qualify for the WTA Finals.

The Russian star won two Masters events in 2025, but missed out on qualifying to Elena Rybakina, who sneaked in as the final qualifier.

With the top 10 of the WTA Tour as strong as they have ever been, Macci has praised one attribute in the women’s game that is better than it has ever been.

Serena Williams’ former coach Rick Macci praises the WTA Tour

Four different players have shared the Grand Slams in 2025, with Madison Keys, Coco Gauff, Iga Swiatek, and Aryna Sabalenka sharing the majors.

Macci believes this is down to the sheer amount of top players on the WTA Tour, who each bring something different with them.

“The depth of quality players on the WTA Tour is at an all-time high,” said Macci, who worked with the Williams sisters, as well as Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick.

The Hall of Fame coach pointed out one area of the WTA Tour that he believes is particularly strong in 2025.

“Anybody can toast anybody because of the ball striking is more elite and you get for free with the racquets and strings,” he explained.

“The serve offers more tasty lunches in bunches, but movement will always be the X-factor,” the former coach concluded.

The quality of the WTA Tour is only showcased by Andreeva becoming the first player since 2012 with over 4000 ranking points to not qualify for the Finals.

Rick Macci tips Mirra Andreeva to have an excellent 2026 season

Andreeva ambushed the top five of the WTA Tour thanks to her wins at the Dubai Championships and Indian Wells.

However, the Russian’s form tailed off after Wimbledon and she slipped out of contention for the WTA Finals.

Despite the setback, Macci expects her to bounce back in 2026, and has even made a bold prediction about the star.

Macci has predicted that Andreeva will become World No. 1 before her career ends, and missing out on the 2025 WTA Finals will only make her stronger.
