Serena Williams continues to tease a return to tennis in 2026, four years after she stepped away from the game.

The American legend re-joined the drug testing pool at the backend of 2025, which caused the likes of Aryna Sabalenka to comment on Williams’ return.

Williams then refused to rule out a return to the sport she dominated for so many years in a recent interview, despite turning 44 in September.

As rumours continue to swirl about a Williams return, her first-ever coach has predicted what he thinks she will do.

Rick Macci tips Serena Williams and Venus Williams reunion

Serena Williams’ former coach, Rick Macci, believes the tennis icon will return to the sport to play doubles alongside Venus Williams.

“Serena will tee it up with Vee and create double trouble as a live Compton street IS coming to a court real soon,” he wrote on X.

However, Macci also believes Williams could make her first singles appearance since the 2022 US Open.

Her first-ever coach added: “That being said she is ready to rock the WTA BOAT as there is a singles wildcard for the GOAT.”

Venus Williams has continued to return to the sport sporadically, including appearances at the ASB Classic and the Australian Open this year.

She is also expected to play a WTA 250 event at the ATX Open later this month, where she has been awarded a wild card.

Serena Williams’ last doubles match with Venus Williams

The Williams sisters’ final doubles match together came during Serena’s swansong at the US Open in 2022.

Serena Williams lost to Ajla Tomljanović in the third round to mark her last-ever singles match, while Venus Williams lost in the first round to Alison Van Uytvanck.

What would happen if Serena Williams played Aryna Sabalenka in 2025?

I would definitely go out there and give my very best. I know that at my very best I can beat anyone.”

The pair combined to see out Serena’s career, but they were both knocked out in the first round of the Grand Slam.

The sister partnership lost to Czech pair Linda Noskova and Lucie Hradecká in straight sets, to end their hunt for a third doubles title at the US Open.

Should Venus and Serena Williams combine one more time, it will likely take place at their home Grand Slam in Flushing Meadows.
