Serena Williams’ former coach says if he really thinks Novak Djokovic can win a Grand Slam title in 2026

Novak Djokovic remains one of tennis’ greatest players of all time, and whether he wins Grand Slam number 25 will not change that.

However, what it might do in the eyes of some is solidify his spot at the top, as the undisputed best to have ever played the sport.

Frustratingly for the Serbian superstar, who has tried so valiantly to achieve this goal, his chances only seem to be getting slimmer with each passing year.

As he ages and his body naturally gets less durable, stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are seemingly only getting better. The chances of claiming any title, let alone a major where these two are present, are next to nothing.

And yet, despite the 39-year-old having been written off by many, there are some who continue to champion his chances of attaining this ultimate goal.

Novak Djokovic’s Grand Slam chances rated

One such example is Rick Macci, famed for his role in the early development of both Serena and Venus Williams.

A famed tennis coach who is unafraid to share his opinion on all things tennis, he took to X to reveal how he responded when asked about Novak Djokovic’s chances of winning Grand Slam number 25.

The American admitted: “Asked if the Joker can win a slam in 2026. YES. 1. If Sinner/ Alcaraz get upset or get injured. 2. If he does not have 5 set street fights and has time to recover.

“Can the Serbian Sniper the Rubber Band man win another Slam? YES because he has been there done that!”

Whilst one notable name backs him to accomplish the unthinkable in 2026, other pundits have predicted that Djokovic might retire despite his assurance that he will try to keep playing until the 2028 Olympics in LA.

Novak Djokovic planning to have a reduced schedule again in 2026

Despite enjoying a hugely successful year, including two ATP titles and four Grand Slam semi-finals, Djokovic will have been left frustrated with his inability to convert any of the latter into silverware.

After all, he is widely regarded as the greatest of all time, and so any inability to break through a barrier will be an unnatural feeling for someone of his talents.

What is your bold prediction for the 2026 tennis season?

The way in which he was able to compete so well at the majors was almost definitely due to his reduced schedule, where he operated in a hugely selective way when deciding which tournaments to play and skip.

In the end, huge events like the Paris Masters, Italian Open, Shanghai, Canada and Cincinnati were all snubbed by the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

And, having already opted out of playing a pre-Grand Slam event ahead of the Australian Open, it seems Djokovic will adopt a similar policy as he sets out on once again trying to achieve this monumental feat.
