It’s only natural that the stars of the new generation are compared to the ones that came before them.

However, when you are Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, the standard set by their predecessors is arguably impossible to live up to.

After all, they followed a legendary generation of men’s tennis, boasting three of the best players of all time.

And yet, despite the ethereal standards set thus far Alcaraz and Sinner are on track to match these accomplishments.

One of the key reasons behind their early-career successes has now been outlined by a leading tennis coach.

Rick Macci, who is best known for his work in developing Serena and Venus Williams as youngsters, has weighed in on what makes this young duo so great.

Naturally, there are many factors that have led to their recent domination over the ATP Tour, and it’s no surprise that many of their successful traits were shared by Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.

That is what Macci sought to emphasise, as he wrote on X: “Look at the Joker Fed Rafa Carlos and Jannik. One common thread that is the staple to visit rare air. MOVEMENT.

“All 5 have this in the back pocket and on court moved like a rocket.”

Despite this, there is a key difference between Alcaraz and Sinner’s rivalry and Federer and Nadal’s.

Alcaraz and Sinner are currently forging one of the greatest rivalries we have ever seen, but it’s still early days to be making comparisons to the battles shared by the Big Three.

After all, the likes of Nadal and Federer had to spend decades battling to be recognised as two of the greatest rivals.

Give it time, and this modern-day duo will certainly be recognised alongside them.

At just 22 and 24 years old respectively, Alcaraz and Sinner have already played 16 times, many of which have come in the latter stages of Grand Slams, Masters 1000s or ATP Finals events.

The Spaniard leads their head-to-head currently with ten wins.
