Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner and the rest of the ATP field will be vying for the Miami Open title over the next week.

Jakub Mensik is the defending Miami Open champion. Last year, the Czech youngster became the lowest-ranked player to win the title in Miami Open history after beating Novak Djokovic in the final.

This year, Jannik Sinner will be looking to complete the Sunshine Double after capturing the Indian Wells title.

Ahead of their first matches, Rick Macci has offered his take on who will win the Floridian title.

Rick Macci is a legendary figure in coaching circles and is credited with the early tennis development of Serena and Venus Williams.

The American coach, who has also worked with Andy Roddick and Maria Sharapova, has stated who he believes will win the ATP Miami Open title.

Upon assessing all possible outcomes, Macci has tipped Jannik Sinner to complete the Sunshine Double.

“Asked my prediction for the Miami open men winner,” Macci said.

“Just have a feel Sinner get the daily double as the fast courts and his style gives his opponents trouble and lower bounce gives him options and time to pounce.”

Jannik Sinner has one Miami Open title to his name, having won the men’s singles event in 2024.

The Italian, who had twice been a finalist before 2024, defeated Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov on his way to the title.

Seeded second in Miami, Sinner has received a bye and will play Damir Dzumhur or Ignacio Buse in the second round.

If the Italian advances, he will likely play Corentin Moutet or Tomas Machac in the third round.

When will Jannik Sinner play his first match at the Miami Open?

Sinner is currently due to play his first match in Florida on Friday.

However, if further rain delays occur, the Italian’s match could be pushed back.

The tournament suffered persistent rain delays on Wednesday, with the whole day eventually ending in a washout.

If the problem persists, organisers of the event may need to extend proceedings for one more day.

Of course, this is easier said than done. However, with courts at the event not having any roofing, the situation could spiral should the adverse weather conditions continue.
