Italian Errani survived a second-set meltdown before eventually seeing off Hungarian veteran Greta Arn 6-2 1-6 7-6 (7/2).

Slovakian Hantuchova, meanwhile, overcame a sluggish start to dispatch Spain’s Nuria Llagostera Vives 3-6 6-3 6-3.

Elsewhere Romanian qualifier Ioana Raluca Olaru produced an impressive performance to oust Jelena Dokic 6-4 6-3, while Urszula Radwanska beat Mariya Koryttseva 6-3 3-6 6-3.

There were also wins for Klara Zakopalova, Jill Craybas, Galina Voskoboeva, Alexandra Dulgheru and Darya Kustova.
