With number one seed Novak Djokovic already through to the semi-finals after Florian Mayer withdrew with a leg injury, the three remaining quarter-finals all went in favour of the higher seed.

Second seed Nikolay Davydenko swept past Austrian Jurgen Melzer 6-3 6-2 to set up a mouthwatering tie with another in-form player, Sweden’s Robin Soderling who routed Frenchman Julian Benneteau in just 64 minutes.

Gael Monfils, the fourth seed, then knocked out Russian Mikhail Youzhny, the sixth seed, in the final match of the day to earn a meeting with Djokovic.
